1. Please give us a quick introduction of yourself.

I’m Michael (Gi-Chan Yeom), and I’m in charge of age (I’m the second oldest person at the company) and sales here at Buzzvil. I love sports! I’m involved with our company’s soccer, table tennis, and basketball teams. I’m sometimes invited to play basketball as a guest at other companies, so even at 40 my basketball skills are useful for business. ^^

I started off my career in partnership sales, and initially assumed that advertisement sales would be similar. I was very wrong, and had difficulties at the start, but I gradually overcame those hardships and am expanding my domain. I’m the eldest member of the Sales team. This is where you always have to search for the next sale, whether the current one is rejected or confirmed.

2. What brings you to Buzzvil?

I was struggling with my new business when friend of mine sent me a contact and told me to send my resume. Looking at the name, I realized that it was Business Development team’s Steve, an old acquaintance of mine. I contacted him  and we had a short meeting over tea. Although I confidently applied to the BD Team, I ended up entering the Sales team. Thanks to that friend, I’ve now been a Buzzvilian for 2 years. ^^ Those around me questioned whether I’d be able to integrate well within Buzzvill’s young, horizontally-oriented structure. I have a young spirit so I’ve integrated well and am enjoying myself.

3. What is your role at Buzzvil?

I’m in charge of external sales within the Sales Team. My main areas are finance and franchises. I have worked for a while in this area, I have a pretty good understanding of the industry so Buzzvil really supports my drive toward this area. Whenever I meet people who work at media companies and agencies, they tell me Buzzvil has contacted them before. That’s the extent of the Buzzvil Sales Team’s capabilities. ^^ The unique features and selling points of BuzzScreen are hard to translate to advertising. To make sales, we have to run around and meet face to face, in order to communicate BuzzScreen’s advantages in an impactful and detailed way. That is what I am doing. I try to meet as many people as I can in person!

4. How does it feel to work at a startup? or advertising industry?

As I mentioned above, I had experience in partnership sales. I initially thought that advertising sales would be similar, because they’re both in the sales field, but they are very different. In partnership sales, there is time for long-term profit negotiation, while in advertising sales, everything is decided in a very short amount of time and we always have to be looking towards the next sale. Also, clear strategy must be established for each advertising category, with the need for quick, impromptu strategy changes. This means that my work is tiring, and sometimes I get fed up with it. But my work makes me feel like I’m alive, and I don’t regret going into advertising.

5. Is there something that you can say “this is the best part being Buzzvilians”?

It is a company that respects freedom, responsibility, and ownership. It’s also a company where you aren’t prodded into work, you are self- motivated. I thought that these things could only be found in books, but I want to show off that Buzzvil really practices these ideals. I’ve never seen anyone abuse these cultural benefits. (but that might just be my eyesight ^^) It’s really great! Freedom is really the best occupational benefit. The fact that Buzzvil’s atmosphere of self- motivated work feels naturally generated is very impressive. Observing everyone doing their job even when working from home is the best motivatio for me. It’s very difficult to cultivate this kind of work environment, but Buzzvil has succeeded!

6. Do you have a personal goal or dream? If so, how does your experience at Buzzvil help you?

As a father of two, my most important goal is to provide a healthy, comfortable life for my family. I’m always working hard to secure stable sales, in order to help both my company and myself. While my own experience working at Buzzvil is important, I also feel that I learn the most by hearing the stories of other Buzzvillians. Although many are much younger than me, they are living such substantial lives. They do a lot of research and use it to fully experience the benefits available. I have experienced so many things, and continue to do so. This is what makes my life feel worth living, and what I teach my children to do. I hope that I can remain in this company for a long time, where I can look my fellow Buzzvillians (maybe not 100%) in the face with satisfaction.
